February 2011 Label Highlight | Last Known Trajectory

2010 brought us many great things in the world of Electro music, and one of those was a glimpse of hope that perhaps vinyl was not dead afterall, that perhaps it was beginning to make a comeback. Since earlier last year, a great label has joined the ranks, releasing title after title of quality 12" hits from artists like Galaxian, The Exaltics, Alek Stark, and AS1; that label is Last Known Trajectory, founded in Germany.

The label's first release was by the already infamous "The Exaltics", from Solar One Music; which was a unique 12" packaged in a futuristic aluminum bag, that also included 2 info cards. The record featured the songs: "Let The Invasion Begin", "The Hunch", "Warships Over Jena City", "The Clash Next Round", and "The Exaltics Theme". This dark, brooding selection of Electronic compositions sent shivers down your spine, and was a great come back after the success of their 2nd installment of the "1000 Lights In The Sky" series released on Bunker Records.

The label followed up with "Robot Sex Freak", by AS1. This 6 track album featured "The Lost Forever", "Robot Sex Freak", "Black Matter Is", "Symmetry and Illusion", and "Stress Relief". Bright, yet melancholic melodies, menacing abstract elements, and funky Techno grooves provided a wide spectrum of tonal arrangements, while classy and punchy beats kept you moving throughout this entire 12" cut.

Their latest release sees the collaboration between two fantastic Spanish producers, one who has been making quite a name for himself over the past couple of years, Alek Stark. Also featuring Victoria Lukas, as well as remixes by other Spanish acts Proto 70, and Jauzas The Shining, this release is an otherworldly invasion of tough beats, mind bending sequences, and suspenseful melodies that keep you on the edge of your seat. The release contains 4 songs, which includes 2 remixes of the main song, "Lights In The Horizon", as well as the song "I Can See The Lights"; which is where you will find the works of Victoria Lukas.

Slightly out of order, and due to unexpected circumstances, what would technically be the label's 3rd, 4th, and 6th releases are still awaiting publication; scheduled out this month through Interstellar Sounds, and include another title by The Exaltics, AS1, as well as an artist that needs no introduction, the galactic conductor himself, Galaxian! As always, coming through with conscious themes, and his wild experimental audacity, Galaxian signs his first 12" E.P., "The Looting Of Reason", with 4 verocious songs which display the wide variety of styles this wonderful Scottish artist has to offer.

Coming up in a time when it seemed that vinyl was truly dead for the Electro Funk and Techno Bass sounds, Last Known Trajectory has proven that indeed it can still be done, if done the right way. Following in the footsteps of label's like Solar One Music, where there is a big emphasis on unique packaging and presentation, the label aims at standing out and making a big first impression. With an artist roster like the one it has to offer, and the quality of material being published, it obviously won't have a very hard time doing so, and we can only patiently await the release of the held up material, as well as future invasions by this great German label.
