Dark Vektor - Basscelona - City Of Bass - Fdb Recordings Fdb02_8

Devine Disorder, Bass Frequency Productions, Subsonic Device and now French label FDB Recordings... decidedly unstoppable Dark Vektor is on all fronts in 2010! Being obviously and with reasons the producer everyone's fighting for at the moment, Ivan Arnau (Dona-li, Drivecom, Titan's Halo Recordings) adds another essential release to his impressive discography, celebrating today the 10th anniversary of Vstee's almighty structure.

Succeeding to a long list of heavyweights artists including UK renegades Blackmass Plastics (Thorn Industries Records), Dj Controlled Weirdness (Unearthly) and The Dexorcist (Battle Trax), Japan terror AE35 (Tokyo Electro Beat Recordings) and last reference US hero Debonaire (Debonaire Records, Street Sounds, Monotone USA), the Spanish wizard offers to Fdb one of his strongest pieces with the longplayer "Basscelona - City Of Bass", a pun aptly and mostly a wink to the town where he comes from.

The A side kicks off with a driving bassline orchestrated with genious around spacey claps, subtle scratch parts and frantic staccatos. While combining inspired vocoder action to new school electro overtones, this melodic mayhem progressively evolves into a deeper affair to deliver an apotheosis of old school samples, whispers and Sci Fi laser sounds at the middle of the cut. After a smashing break, the track finally restarts, enhanced with another melody over fresh programming and hot spanish lyrics giving a new dimension to the song. Stunning! Full of groove, bass and atmosphere, this is the kind of electro which without any doubt will do the job on any dancefloor.

The reverse sees the appearance of two guests for a prestigious rework session.

Sculped into Bass, Diplomat’s remix on B1 is based upon a heavy heavy kick. I had the opportunity to play it on party with loud speakers and it has to be experienced!! Brilliant combination of low frequencies, crunchy 808 flights, lethal vocoderized voices, stripped down 606 and rolling subs, Will Philipps’s (Electrolab, Street Sounds, Sonic Fortress) version is nothing short of incredible, reusing the main theme of "Basscelona - City Of Bass" but with more energized pads and overboosted beats. If the remix of the UK artist remains hard, the cut is never aggressive and is guarantee to put the crowd in a circle! Top notch.

Closing the side on a retro register, the 12’’ returns to Spain introducing Camilo “Kapi” Sampayo aka Downrocks’s own vision. Focused on melodies, generous strings and entertaining details, Beathazard mastermind, hailing also from Barcelona, mutates the original into an old school electro funk classic, fuelled with 80’s bassline, vintage synths and striking scratches sequences like back in the days.

From the impressive sleeve artwork by Korean GFX a.k.a. Grafflex to the music, this new Fdb outing, available in extreme limited edition, is pure quality design and stands in the right way of the previous releases! Must have.

Fdb Recordings is back once again, continuing their onslaught of heavy-hitting releases from some of your favorite international Electro/Techno artists. This time, it is none other than Dark Vektor and his tribute to the new city of Bass...Basscelona! Featuring remixes by the legendary Diplomat, as well as one of the producers responsible for the resurgence in Spanish retro Electro Funk, Downrocks. 3 well crafted cuts full of old school Miami Bass flavors, yet pushing forward with a modern Electro/Techno Bass feel.

First song on the EP is the original version of Basscelona by Dark Vektor himself, which carries a melodic element reminiscent of his 2008 FBI release, "Inteligencia Colectiva". As you are welcomed through the gates into the newly crowned city of bass, you get the feeling you are in Miami circa 1990; something you quickly realize is far from true. While paying homage to the styles of Miami Bass, Dark Vektor engages full thrust into the future by fusing elements of the past, with his uncanny vision of things often ahead of their time; creating a 21st century jam that is sure to please fans of the many sub genres of Electro/Techno Music. Elegant and glimmering sequenced melodies, an abundance of zaps and bleeps, and tightly produced bass-heavy beats are escorted by mysterious and crisp spanish vocoders...what a way to start the record!

Next up is the fabulous remix by the man, the legend...Diplomat. Classy and punchy beats make way for signature Diplomat vocoding, made even more unique by the addition of his own lyrical work; giving the original a well executed re-working "a la Diplomat". Last But not least, we have a true old school blaster straight from the streets of Spain by one of the pioneers of the Spanish Electro Funk scene, Downrocks. Here, things get slowed down as much as they get jazzed up, featuring Downrocks' own scratching and vocoders, this wonderful old school rendition of the original is a novelty and a treat for your turntables.

Dark Vektor is truly becoming a force to be reckoned with, if he hasn't been already for quite some time. With a vast catalog of releases dating back to the early 2000's, this world class composer and producer is an incredible role model and inspiration for many of us that have had the pleasure of experiencing the sounds of Basscelona; something he is very responsible for. Coming out of an era when vinyl labels are few and far between, it is refreshing seeing Fdb Recordings going full steam ahead with their ever growing catalog of vinyl releases, adding yet one more to their wall of fame with Dark Vektor's new classic "Basscelona". ¿Al final no hay distribución nacional? Tengo el Dark Vektor de Titans Halo comprado en Recycled, el seek 2012 comprado en Discos Paradiso y el Joja Non Sabia que lo compré en 12 shape, me va a fastidiar tener que pedirlo a UK y pagar un pastizal en gastos.
Si no hay distribución nacional por lo menos pediré tres copias y veré luego porque cambio las dos que no me quedaré
